description
This statement can be the key for the rehabilitation of the OLD GYUMRI MARKET, which integrates an INNOVATIVE culinary and catering SCHOOL. The ruins of the old market keep the SPIRIT OF THE PLACE alive and even though the building itself no longer exists, people have reestablished the commerce and kept life as if the market was still there.
NULLUS LOCUS SINE GENIO - there is no space without spirit, and this place is proof of that.
What is the spirit of the place? What is the hidden nature of the city?
The streets’ layout of Gyumri are clear, almost regular. The definition of the blocks is clear as well, but they are not regular. They are of “organic and informal” formation. The public buildings are historicist, solid, and potent. The diversity, fragments, arrhythmias, and scale ruptures generate a cohesive framework, like a QR CODE CITY.
The urban construction matches the complexity and antiquity of the social web.
